Our Performance Drumline is a talented and friendly ensemble which meets weekly on NTU’s City Campus to rehearse.
Led by drum tutor Steve Barwell, NTU’s Drumline (the Falcons) play pieces for marching snare drums, bass drums and cymbals. We draw from the playing styles of some of the world’s best drumlines, including the Top Secret Drum Corps and DCI. Being a member of NTU Drumline provides a unique opportunity for drummers and percussionists to come together to share ideas and discuss drumming. You’ll hone your technical skills, and be part of performances that will turn heads!
Drumline is split into two sessions – Performance Drumline and Drumming Fundamentals. Performance Drumline is suitable for experienced musicians while Drumming Fundamentals is perfect if you’re new to playing the drums or percussion and don’t read music.
What experience do I need?
If you’re interested in joining Performance Drumline, you should be able to play to Grade 3-5 standard or above, but you don’t need to have taken the exams.
Yearly cost
- £30 NTU students (free for NTU Bursary holders)
- £60 NTU staff and alumni
- £90 community members
Membership includes access to practice facilities in the Music Centre at no extra cost (usually £15 annually) and free access to all our other musical ensembles.
Performances
The Falcons perform at various events and concerts throughout the year, including NTU’s Lunchtime Christmas Concert at the Royal Concert Hall and Nottingham Light Night.
This event is organised by NTU Arts – the University’s extra-curricular arts programme. No booking required, just drop in!
