Join us at Bonington Gallery for a first look at our brand new exhibitions.

The first exhibition is by photographer Alan Lodge, whose work has documented British counterculture, protest movements and grassroots activism for more than five decades. Featuring more than 100 photographs alongside 35mm slide projections, moving-image works, personal archives, and previously unseen material, Common Grounds provides an expansive overview of Lodge’s practice and of a life dedicated to activism.

As part of the Bonington Vitrines series, we’re also delighted to present The Velvet Acronyms – It’s a Wonderful Protest. A collaboration between artists Anna Li and Simon Raven, the body of work uses satirical ‘crip humour’ to challenge ableism in the arts.

Tickets to the launch event are free and include refreshments (first come, first served) and live music in our Atrium.

Bonington Gallery is part of NTU Arts – the University’s extra-curricular arts programme.

Student tips

Thoughts and advice from current students on your first few days with us.

Try and make time for some of the taster sessions offered, even if it’s outside your comfort zone. It’s a great way to meet other students too and possibly develop a new hobby.

I was very nervous about starting University as it was a brand new experience for me, living away from home for a long period of time. I thought that there would be nothing for me to attend as I do not like crowded places or drinking. But there were plenty of events that I got involved in.
